When I was fifteen or so, I imagined a pantheon of Seven Beings responsible for various forces on Earth: ocean, harvest, night… I can’t remember them all! For each Being I invented a name, drew a pastel portrait on construction paper, and on the back, hand-wrote a story of their mystical powers. This long lost series expressed the world understood through angels, faeries, demigods and goddesses—personifications of inexplicable phenomena through unbridled creativity. I am grateful my parents let me explore my nascent spirituality with such liberation because, today, I hope to share some of that innocent magic, curiosity, and wonder with you.
Back in the mid-2000s while creating Send A Blessing eCards, there appeared to me an Angel who brings snow, rides the moon, and wakes a family to light returning the morning after Winter Solstice. A young ballerina from the Boulder Ballet embodied the Angel, while our tenants in North Boulder became the protagonists. The music is I Wonder As I Wander from Celtic Christmas by the enormously talented Kim Robertson. (Calling all harpists: sheet music here!)
As we mark the darkest hour of the year, I wish you and your loved ones a release of all that is dark, ruined, and spent—and the return of Light in your hearts, renewed hopes, refreshed vision, and restored tranquility and assurance—the promise of Winter Solstice.
With Love,
Sonya
